What Moderately Played Allows
Moderately Played (MP) is the middle of TCGplayer's five-step scale, describing a card with wear that is obvious at a glance yet still structurally sound. Expect noticeable border whitening on multiple corners and edges, visible surface scratching, moderate off-centering, and sometimes a light crease or bend that does not break the card stock. On a black-bordered card the whitening stands out sharply, so MP tends to look worse on a dark border than the same wear would on a white-bordered card. What separates MP from the grades below it is that there is no heavy creasing, tearing, water damage, or writing — the card is worn, not damaged, and reads perfectly in a sleeve.
Pricing and Value of MP Cards
MP copies typically sell for somewhere around 60–75% of the Near Mint price, with the discount widening on cards where collectors prize condition. For a deck staple this is where real savings appear: an MP dual land or an MP Sheoldred, the Apparition still does its job on the battlefield while costing meaningfully less than a clean copy. The trade-off is a thinner resale market — fewer buyers actively seek MP singles, so they can take longer to sell than NM or LP. Vintage and Reserved List cards are the exception: because pristine copies are so scarce and expensive, MP examples of cards like the original dual lands often have strong, steady demand from players who just want the card in a playable state.

Moderately Played is the workhorse grade for budget-conscious players. If you sleeve your decks — and you should for anything you value — MP cards perform identically to NM and let you build a stronger deck for the same money.
