Era Overview
The Supplemental and Reprint category covers the products that exist outside the main Standard release schedule and focus on reprinting existing cards. This includes the Masters series (Modern Masters, Double Masters, Ultimate Masters, and Commander Masters), Duel Decks, From the Vault, box sets, Jumpstart, Mystery Booster, and the direct-to-consumer Secret Lair drops. These releases serve two roles: they lower the price of expensive staples by increasing supply, and they offer premium new treatments — alternate art, borderless frames, and foils — that create fresh collector demand. The result is a category that shapes the secondary market as much as any Standard set.
History & Highlights
Modern Masters in 2013 pioneered the high-reprint-value set, giving players a way to acquire expensive Modern staples, and its success spawned a whole family of Masters sets. Duel Decks and From the Vault offered curated, themed products with premium versions of fan-favorite cards. Jumpstart reinvented the sealed experience with shuffle-together themed packs, Mystery Booster mixed cards from across the game’s history, and Secret Lair turned reprints into limited, collectible drops with bespoke art. Together these products have made the game’s best cards more accessible while continually introducing sought-after new versions.
